News and Announcements
Canada Touch Rugby is excited to announce the return of indoor rugby for the 2020 Fall Season in Burlington starting on October 15, 2020.
2020 has been an interesting year to say the least and it is also CTR’s 10th season of co-ed indoor rugby.
Currently the Fall season at the Hangar in Toronto is on hold for 28 days as per the provincial restrictions. We plan on moving forward once the restrictions are lifted.
CTR’s main priority during this time is to provide a safe environment for our players and staff while providing a fun and competitive indoor rugby experience that you have all come to love.
CTR is committed to providing safe programs where physical activity and mental health are key.
In response to COVID-19, CTR has obtained their own insurance for the indoor rugby league and we have adopted new COVID-19 protocols in order to adhere to provincial regulations (See our COVID-19 Protocols).
Please ensure all players complete attestation survey prior to every session and Check-in at the sanitation station upon arrival.
All players this year will also receive a “CTR Squeezyband” personal wristband hand sanitizer for use between games.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to indoor rugby. Please ensure you follow our COVID-19 Protocols, be safe and have fun.
Canada Touch Rugby is excited to be gearing up for another season which promises to be another great year of friendship, fitness and the odd miraculous rugby play. In fact it will be CTR’s 9th season of co-ed touch rugby with home to now over 300-400 members.
Last season CTR witnessed a new Championship squad ‘Bohica’ (an original CTR team) who dethroned the Upper Canada College champs ‘Tigers B’ who were looking for a 3 peat performance in the Grand Finals. The ‘One Hitters’ representing the Burlington league finished 3rd and have been a top team since they joined 3 seasons ago.
CTR will no doubt continue to offer a competitive and fun rugby environment this season, but we also are happy to announce our continued off-field partnerships including The Pint who will again be providing members with gift certificates and an excellent venue for our various celebrations. We are also happy to announce that Refresh-It will be keeping our gear smelling fresh by providing our teams with samples this season. Additionally, The Toronto Arrows have offered to give our winning teams with free tickets to a home game next season, not to mention we will continue to look for opportunities with Aedelhard who provided last years winning team with some unbelievable apparel. The stakes are growing for the Grand Finals!
One final exciting piece of news is that o’neills is back again to supply our jerseys. CTR will also be setting up an online shop prior to the season where teams will be able to order personalised gear (in addition to jerseys) with your own custom team designs/logos. More announcements to come…
CTR fall leagues begin mid-October and are available at the Toronto (The ‘Hangar’) and Burlington (Sherwood Forest Park) locations. The winter seasons kick off in early January and are operating at the above locations with the addition of Upper Canada College in Toronto. All CTR leagues remain a co-ed format where we continue to encourage participation from all age groups, skill-sets and abilities.
For teams looking to take advantage of the early bird price, be sure to register your fall team before September 10th to receive $50 off the membership fee. Winter team early bird will be announced later.
Please email email@example.com for any questions about the upcoming season!
Canada Touch Rugby is excited to announce that O’neills will be providing ALL teams in each of the CTR leagues with customizable jerseys for the upcoming 2018-19 season. Each team will be given the opportunity to create unique designs choosing their own colour, logos, and styles providing a more personal touch for everyone involved. O’neills will also be supplying all game balls for the season.
Richard McCarter of O’neills says, “it’s great to be involved with CTR and we are looking forward to continue developing the relationship over the coming years. O’neills is marking its 100th year anniversary this year and it’s exciting to see our products being used internationally from grassroots to professional level rugby.”
Founder of CTR, Steve Shortly believes that teams will appreciate the quality of the product O’neills has to offer. “In the past we have provided jerseys for our teams, which worked fine, but with O’neills on board, the quality of the product is far superior than what we have used in previous seasons. Not to mention, this gives our players the capability to design their own gear which is something we know people will appreciate.”
Registration for the Canada Touch Rugby Fall/Winter seasons will be available August 3rd, 2018. Venues include The Hangar (Downsview Park Toronto), Burlington Dome- Sherwood Forest Park, and Upper Canada College (Toronto- winter season only). For those looking to get an early jump on the season, to learn the game, or to get out to socialize while exercising (or all of the above) CTR is hosting a summer tournament in Burlington at Sherwood Forest Park on August 19th.
REGISTER HERE. O’neills jersey samples will be on display, and game balls for this coming season will be used for the tournament.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on any of the above.
Canada Touch Rugby is set to host the Grand Finals this coming Sunday from 1-3pm at The Hangar Sport and Event Centre. This year is unique in that the top three teams from each respective league (U.C.C., The Hangar, and Burlington) will be competing to hoist the ‘CTR Cup.’ In previous years, only the top team from each league was invited to compete.
“With additional top caliber teams in this years finals, we feel this tournament will be a true representation of the CTR Champions considering the growing talent pool in each of our member leagues,” Steve Shortly says.
What ever happens on the day it should be a fun day for all considering the Grand Final week is a ‘bonus’ rugby week for all teams invited to compete. With that being said, it sure would be nice to have bragging rights for this one. Teams competing are posted below and for those interested, the tournament bracket will be posted in the next few days.
Good luck to all teams participating this coming weekend!
