News and Announcements

Canada Touch Rugby is excited to be gearing up for another season which promises to be another great year of friendship, fitness and the odd miraculous rugby play. In fact it will be CTR’s 9th season of co-ed touch rugby with home to now over 300-400 members.

Last season CTR witnessed a new Championship squad ‘Bohica’ (an original CTR team) who dethroned the Upper Canada College champs ‘Tigers B’ who were looking for a 3 peat performance in the Grand Finals. The ‘One Hitters’ representing the Burlington league finished 3rd and have been a top team since they joined 3 seasons ago.

CTR will no doubt continue to offer a competitive and fun rugby environment this season, but we also are happy to announce our continued off-field partnerships including The Pint who will again be providing members with gift certificates and an excellent venue for our various celebrations. We are also happy to announce that Refresh-It will be keeping our gear smelling fresh by providing our teams with samples this season. Additionally, The Toronto Arrows have offered to give our winning teams with free tickets to a home game next season, not to mention we will continue to look for opportunities with Aedelhard who provided last years winning team with some unbelievable apparel. The stakes are growing for the Grand Finals!

One final exciting piece of news is that o’neills is back again to supply our jerseys. CTR will also be setting up an online shop prior to the season where teams will be able to order personalised gear (in addition to jerseys) with your own custom team designs/logos. More announcements to come…

CTR fall leagues begin mid-October and are available at the Toronto (The ‘Hangar’) and Burlington (Sherwood Forest Park) locations. The winter seasons kick off in early January and are operating at the above locations with the addition of Upper Canada College in Toronto. All CTR leagues remain a co-ed format where we continue to encourage participation from all age groups, skill-sets and abilities.

For teams looking to take advantage of the early bird price, be sure to register your fall team before September 10th to receive $50 off the membership fee. Winter team early bird will be announced later.

This coming Sunday will be the first of two championship days for the CTR fall season. First up, The Hangar league in Toronto will host 10 teams competing for the right to be named league champions. There are a few favourites heading into Sunday including ‘The Bay St. Gormandizers’, ‘Big Barbs’, however competition is relatively tight so any team will be dangerous on the day.

Burlington will host its championship day on the 21st of December and will mark the first time a team will have an opportunity claim the title. Unlike The Hangar league, there has been a clear favourite from day one which is the team from Brantford who are looking to continue to collect hardware this year after their back to back McCormick Cup Championship. A few players from the ‘Quinns’ have maintained their fine form from the summer season.

However which way the dust settles, we are looking forward to hosting what will be another fun day of rugby!

For those looking to join us this winter there is still space for teams and individuals at the Hangar in Toronto.

We play the sport of rugby because it is the game we love, but there is so much more that brings us back week after week! See the link below for some great action shots taken by Leighton Chong displaying the friendship, sweat, and sometimes physical agony that we choose to love.

FYI- There are 1-2 team/individual spots open at the Hangar and in Burlington for those still looking to join us for the 2018 winter season! The U.C.C. league is now full.
